Why Bounce Rate Is a Key Indicator of Click Fraud

30.05.2025 7

Bounce rate shows the percentage of visitors who leave your site after viewing just one page. If it goes above 80%, it may indicate click fraud or bot traffic.

Why bots cause high bounce rates:

  • they don’t scroll or click;
  • they exit quickly after page load;
  • they interact with nothing;
  • there’s no mouse movement or attention span.

When a high bounce rate is normal:

  • the page has one purpose (e.g. a phone number);
  • the user gets an instant answer (e.g. pricing);
  • the traffic is organic, not paid.

How to tell if it’s fraud:

  1. Compare bounce rate by traffic source.
  2. Use AntiClick to analyze visitor behavior.
  3. Segment by geo, device, and user-agent.
  4. Check session time — <5 seconds = suspicious.
