How to Distinguish Click Fraud from Natural User Behavior

13.06.2025 2

Click fraud is a major threat to ad performance. But bots and bad actors aren’t always easy to spot. You need to know how real users behave to detect the difference.

Signs of natural user behavior:

  • session lasts 15–30+ seconds;
  • scrolls, clicks, views multiple pages;
  • shows curiosity (FAQ, contact, pricing pages);
  • IP is from your target location;
  • user returns or bookmarks your site.

Signs of fraudulent clicks:

  • very short sessions (1–3 sec);
  • no interaction after landing;
  • repeat clicks from same IP/device;
  • page depth = 1;
  • unusual user-agent or screen size.

What to do:

  1. Use AntiClick to log behavior.
  2. Segment traffic by engagement level.
  3. Block repetitive or scripted behavior.
  4. Only optimize campaigns based on verified sessions.
