Retargeting should be your best-performing ad type — it targets warm leads. But fraud can slip in, especially if you don’t cleanse your audiences.
How fraud enters retargeting:
- bots trigger session logs and enter your audience lists;
- platforms assume they're real visitors;
- ads serve to “dead” IDs or devices;
- you get clicks, no conversions — budget wasted.
Signs of retargeting fraud:
- conversions drop while CTR stays high;
- repeat clicks from one IP;
- no interaction after ad click;
- audiences never refresh, show same IDs;
- ultra-short sessions (< 3 sec).
What to do:
- Use AntiClick to clean your retargeting lists.
- Exclude devices/IPs with no engagement.
- Set stricter audience filters: min. 2 pages, 10+ sec.
- Avoid injecting bots into your lookalikes.
