What Are “Warm” and “Cold” Clicks — and How Fraud Masks Them

In ad analytics, we often distinguish between warm and cold clicks—based on user intent.

  • Warm click: the user is already familiar with your brand or is actively searching.
  • Cold click: accidental, unqualified—or generated by bots or click farms.

Signs of a warm click:

  • long session, multiple pages viewed;
  • views on “Pricing”, “Contact”, or “Cart” pages;
  • interaction with forms or CTA;
  • return visits.

Signs of cold or fraudulent clicks:

  • short session, single page view;
  • no interaction, no scroll;
  • VPN or proxy used;
  • odd geo or time patterns.

The problem:
Fraudulent clicks mimic real behavior but don’t convert. This distorts analytics and leads to wasted spend.

What to do:

  1. Segment traffic by intent level.
  2. Analyze post-click behavior.
  3. Use AntiClick to detect and filter cold/fake sessions.
  4. Focus on converting traffic.
